By creating CWS Kits for survivors of disaster or providing a hug while welcoming a newly arrived refugee family, you and your congregation can provide hope by participating with “hands-on” activities to serve the vulnerable of the world. The members of your congregation will be the church in the world in service.
- Welcome a Refugee Family:
Welcome teams accompany refugees beginning new lives in the US. In partnership with a local CWS refugee resettlement office, prepare an apartment, greet families at the airport and assist with activities such as school registration and grocery shopping. Your financial support and encouragement during a family’s first months will make an impact in their lives — and the life of your congregation.
- Individual Refugee Volunteers:
Live the call to justice and hospitality while creating welcoming communities; volunteer at your local CWS refugee resettlement office. Volunteer opportunities may include assisting with initial appointments, serving as an English partner, or coordinating donations. Volunteer opportunities vary according to your location, but all connect your talents, time and energy with our newest neighbors.
- CWS Kits:
Compassion. Comfort. CWS Kits. You and your congregation can provide hope to people who have often times lost everything. In the aftermath of a disaster, or having fled from violence as their homes were overtaken, a CWS Kit can let them know that they have not been forgotten. CWS Kits is a great opportunity for congregations looking for a “hands-on” activity.
- Volunteer with a CROP Hunger Walk:
Your local CROP Hunger Walk could use your help to make the walk a success. You can get involved by serving on the planning team, helping with walk day set-up, hosting a water stop, cheering on the participants or providing snacks. To find a CROP Hunger Walk near you, check out crophungerwalk.org and email the Event Coordinator.
